An interactive visualization of the exponential spread of COVID-19

A project to explore the global growth of COVID-19. Updated daily. Overview and motivations.
A few interesting bits I found interesting to explore:
  • These graphs are not just images. Hover over any data point to see the data behind it.
  • There are two different ways to view the exact same data:
    • The logarithmic scale shows a great comparison of the magnitude of growth between countries, but less of the human impact.
    • The linear scale shows the real human impact -- a growth twice the size is twice the number of real people infected.
    • Switch between the two by toggling the scale at the bottom of each graph.
    • View all the graphs below or each graph individually: by countries, by US States, or population normalized by country, or by US state.
  • Latest Enhancement: (June 10) Added a "Data Source" selection allowing you to select where the data is sourced for the visualization. [See full change log]
  • This visualization is updated daily from multiple data sources.

Data Source:

New COVID-19 Cases by Country per Day

Same Data -- Normalized by Population

The visualizations below use the exact same COVID-19 data from Johns Hopkins except that the data is now normalized by dividing by the country or state population.
  • The data is presented as confirmed cases per 1,000,000 people, based on the country or US state/territory population found on Wikipedia.
